National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association
People with disabilities find it much easier to travel in wheelchair adapted vehicles, or even to drive themselves, thanks to NMEDA , one of the leading industry association. The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) is a non-profit mobility dealer association, and the overall goal is to make it as easy as possible for those with disabilities to have options for transportation.
The association welcomed members from across the United States in 1989, after originally operating solely in Florida as a group comprised of equipment dealers from that state. Since then, membership has grown steadily from 15 member groups and now includes over 600 members, mostly in the US and Canada. However, the organization’s goal is essentially the same, to enable those with a disability to be able to take advantage of reliable and quality transportation.
NMEDA guidelines must be adhered to by any member, as well as the Traffic Safety Administration’s safety standards. A set of rules known as guidelines are issued annually, and these are updated and changed as rules, regulations and policies change; all member groups are expected to follow these guidelines in the pursuit of their goal.
Quality Assurance Program (QAP)
In order to recognize and promote reliability, safety and quality, the Quality Assurance Program (QAP) was developed, and in some states a mobility equipment dealer of wheelchair vans or similar mobility equipment must participate in the program if they are also involved in any vocational rehabilitation program. Being recognized by QAP means that consistently high guidelines are being followed by Ocean Conversions & Mobility for installing mobility equipment and modifying vehicles for use by those with disabilities, and the QAP is the only program of its kind in the industry.
Just as NMEDA holds high expectations, so does Ocean Conversions & Mobility, and the safety and satisfaction of our customers is one of the most important things goals we have. Ocean Conversions & Mobility is proud to be a participant in the QAP program and to be a member of NMEDA as we strive to do our best to help those with a disability regain their freedom of mobility once more.
